Description

Our team was tasked, directly from the Milan Municipality, to redesign the service of Milano Partecipa, a platform used by the citizens to create and sign petitions and referendums. A way for people to communicate with the municipality.

The platform had two main problems: it wasn’t used and it wasn’t usable.

We decided to rethink the service completely, focusing on scalability and public involvement at different levels so that we could engage people in different ways.

On top of that, we proceeded with the actual platform redesign, creating a more playful and stimulating design system, that we applied in the creation of both the Website and the Mobile Application.

Milan Neighbourhoods were the starting point to make people engaged. They relate more to issues physically closer to them. To make it Gianluca did some MapBox magic.

The Municipality asked us to include a fourth one, made for communications and updates from the Administration. This also improved transparency.

The Engagement Pyramid was useful to assess that the users could approach the platform starting from various degree of commitment. Also, it was a simple and powerful visual metaphor used to communicate the idea to stakeholders.
